Dear Catfish Nation,
There was much rejoicing and celebrating across the land last night, as the Catfish beat ChemE Bound & Down (in fact, our old friends from last year What the Fugacity) with a score of 15 – 12. Who can remember the last time Fish won opening day? Anyone? I cannot, but I will peruse our blog to try to solve this mystery.
I’ll keep this brief as I’m writing 30,000 feet up in the air (just kidding, I’m sitting at the airport), but there were so many glorious Catfish moments of shining brilliance—it was truly something to behold. Rookie Na-Slam-iel Trippe made numerous beautiful catches in the outfield. We tip our caps to him and look forward to a long and flourishing career from this young Fish. This game marked the triumphant returns of Katie “Hellkat (Has Landed)” Helke and John “JC Super Butchie007 Star” Costello, and both made fine fishy showings on the field and at the plate. I believe nearly all of us made it to base and as the score shows, 15 made it home. Jon “Papa Butters” Elwell wowed us with his obligatory home run (thanks Butttazzzz!). But truly the highlight of the game was the double play handed to us on a shiny platter by none other David “DG Dub” Weininger. He made an amazing snag at 2nd base to retire the runner, and then, with a terrifying spark leaping forth from his eyes, gunned down the runner who was foolishly trying to make it to 3rd. Bob “Pega Luna” Bethune caught that rocket from DG Dub, all in the crucial bottom of the 7th.
As ever though, all Fish were shiny and beautiful, with bats afire and gloves as wide as canyons: Chris “Chrazy Eyed Curmudge” Eyer, John “The Tsunami” Tsai, Evan “The Evangelist” Mauser, Levi “The Leviathan Beast” Rubeck, Richard “Nouveau Riche” Wladkowski, Erin “Crazily H-Bomb” Haisley, Matt “The Baffler” Abbate (who took some knocks to his legs for the Fish, tip your caps), Yar “The Yaaaarchitect” Laakso, and John “The Abbatoirist” Abbate—all made stupendous catches and plays. Score was meticulously kept by Kate “The Scalder” Caldwell, and much cuteness was provided by Edith “Baby Fish” Mauser. Marc “M Lo” was there with us in spirit, though out with the Ague and more seriously a crooked clavicle.
Please join us in two weeks when we face our next foes.
