Fish score 9 runs against Shadow Masks, vow revenge

Catfish Nation,

It was undeniably a brutal loss to the Shadow Masks last night as the score shows. But we did fight the good night, and we proudly did not go scoreless into that dark loss against these terrible foes. I think we can blame it all on the fact that they brought with them two powerfully adorable good luck charms, in the form of a baby dog and a baby girl. What they don’t know is that we’ve got our own Baby Scaldwell Butters brewing, who will bestow much good fortune upon us once that Baby Fish joins us.

At any rate, I would say the highlights included Katie “Helke Smash!” Helke tagging out the runner from 2nd to 3rd, who just happens to be the batter who drives me insane (and I know has also driven Kate the Scaldwell Elwell insane) by waiting through many strikes until one happens to catch his fancy. Her gentle tag seemed to pain him, though he assured us he was “just fine.” Another highlight was my getting hit by a line drive on my leg. I talked a lot about that last night in more colorful terms so I won’t go into details here.

And truly as always, all Fish shone forth as the true fighters they are: John “You Know Nothing John CostellSnow” Costello, Ryan “The Pickler” Picazio, Jon “Butterz” Elwell, John “The T(s)lammin’ T(s)unami” Tsai, Chris “Chrazy Eyes on Fire” Eyer, David “DG Dugs” Weininger, Na-Slamwell Nathaniel Trippe (welcome to the home run club, NaSlamWell!), Levi “The Leviathanator” Rubeck, Richard “Richie Rich” Wladkowski, Erin “The H Bomb” Hasley, Yar “The Yaaarchitect” Laakso, Jamie “The Jamiable Pitch-Slayer” Emerson, and even yours truly, Captain Bloaty née Batty herself—we all had fine moments of amazing athleticism and fierce competitiveness, as we all knew the true rare and glowing prize for which we fought: beer and pizza and insalate at The Muddy after the game.

We play the Masks again on July 16 and I’m sure we will give them the What For then. Please join us next Thursday when we face the ADP Oafers at 5:30 on the Women’s Softball Diamond.
