It was a scorcher last night on the astroturf, and the Catfish put up quite a fight, scoring 16 total runs! We outscored the Whybunts 3 out of 7 innings last night, beating them 2-1 in the 2nd inning, 4-1 in the fifth inning, and a whopping 3-0 in the 7th inning! Unfortunately, we actually needed to outscore them by 18 runs in that last inning, just to keep the game alive..... I assume you can do the math yourself to figure out the final score, if you're so inclined.
Our bats were on fire, though, with Evan Mauser getting a homerun, John Costello getting a triple, Ryan Picazio and Marc Lowenthal getting doubles, and a bunch of singles, by Erin Hasley, Charles Hale, Diane Denner, Greg Dokshin, Erika Valenti, and even, ahem, yours truly (though it might have been a fielder's choice for all I know). I'm sure I'm missing some hits in there so feel free to let me know if I missed anyone.
There were also stupendous catches made, 2 in a row by Katie Helke at 3rd, and I remember in particular a couple of V2V ("Valenti-to-Valenti") combos, from SS to 2nd, that stood out. Great pitching as well by Nathan Hohenstein and Kate Caldwell.
Next game is against the "Fowl Swingers," again on field 1, 5:30, next Wednesday. I don't think we've ever played them before, so now's our big chance to intimidate them with our toughness!! Go Fish!
Happy long weekends,
Judy
